Sweet Jebus

My dear friend who was my maid of honor is getting married. She planned my bachelorette party, and it was sushi, drinking, dancing and spa treatments the morning after. I love her to death and we had a blast, but one of her friends who is in the Bay Area is planning her bachelorette party. This girl planning hers just sent out the itinerary for this one, and among the activities listed was:

1.5 hour private pole dancing lesson

I am so out of my league. I may not be available to make it to this party, oddly enough. I just don't really know how to react to this. It is not going to be cheap, either. Even if I crash at my parents house since it is in my hometown. But I hate to not be there to celebrate with her, since the wedding will be huge so I won't really be hanging out with her on the big day.

This is just too surreal for me. I have no clue how to respond. She said she is open for other suggestions but I got nothin'.

That's...kind of disgusting. It's as if we're running out of ways to make weddings over-the-top ridiculous.

Being less than athletic myself, I'm not real comfortable with party activities that call for athleticism -- and pole dancing does. Doing it right is very gymnastic.

Why does the event have to be so planned and complicated? When did people stop being able to have a simple girls' night out?

Wow, that's just downright tacky. But, can't you participate in other parts of the day? That way you should also only have to pay for the parts you're actually there for.

Over here hen nights have turned into full days, and they usually end up costing somewhere between $100-200. And then you have to get a new outfit for the wedding, and a present... Thank god most of my friends are married by now!

Yeah, since what you want to do is spend time and talk to her, how is pole dancing going to accomplish that? That's the equivalent of an aerobics class. I'd suggest something that entails no activity, some food items, beverages, and the ability to talk about old times and the future. There's a reason they usually end up doing manicures, you can still talk and hang. Not that I'm suggesting manicures though.

perhaps you should show her the Real Housewives of Atlanta episode where they learn pole-dancing. Trust me, that should be enough to turn off any such plans...

hee hee- my word verification is "baked"...
