This might help, no guarantees. Paths would connect the two patio areas and go past the veggie bit to the gate. The black blob is the A/C unit on the little strip of sidewalk. This is the whole fenced area behind and on either side of the house. You seem to be able to click to see this at a legible size, as well.

Clicking made it ever more so legiblie. Yes, definitely there should be a path connecting the spaces: but something slightly meandering and edged so it's distinquished from the sand. I see pots with pretty things along the edges, perhaps?
